Arenas Del Mar is hosting my stay at the hotel, however the opinions that I share in this post are my own.
Vacations are supposed to be fun, worry-free, and full of delicious food & fruity drinks. Unfortunately, those who are gluten free don’t have the same luxury as others. We have to do extensive research when planning a vacation just to make sure we will be able to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner where we are. This oftentimes involves reading travel websites, gluten-free blogs, and dealing directly with a travel agent. Basically, the planning process can turn into a part-time job.
Luckily, hotels and resorts are starting to get with the program and offer gluten-free options, ensuring that guests will enjoy their dining experience worry-free. One of these hotels is Arenas Del Mar in Costa Rica.
Arenas Del Mar is in the process of completing the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) GREAT Kitchens gluten-free training program. All of the hotel’s kitchen staff will have gone through the training program as of Memorial Day 2014. To celebrate, this boutique hotel in Costa Rica is having two weeks for the Celiac Disease Community.
NFCA’s GREAT Kitchens Gluten-Free Training
The NFCA’s GREAT Kitchens program is offered to food service professional working in a variety of settings. This training program ensures that they learn what it takes to meet the needs of the gluten-free community, as well as how to do so both safely and confidently.
The Founder & President of the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, Alice Bast visited Arenas Del Mar to check out the hotel for herself. She stayed at the hotel in December 2013 for one week and loved the experience. After this stay, Alice Bast endorsed the idea of hosting two weeks for the Celiac Disease Community if the Arenas Del Mar went through the training course and gained accreditation, and they have since. To learn more about the special accommodations during the weeks of September 13th and November 8th (restaurants going 100% gluten free), call or email Jeremy Allen at 601.407.9371 and AllenAllen@aol.com and be sure to tell him that G-Free Laura sent you!
Arenas Del Mar’s Gluten-Free Connection
The switch to gluten-free accommodations at Arenas Del Mar was inspired by the owner’s daughter, who was diagnosed with celiac disease. This diagnosis opened the family’s eyes to how celiac disease and the gluten-free diet can affect how we vacation and travel. As a result, the hotel is offering a worry-free destination to the gluten-free community.
G-Free Laura at Arenas Del Mar
I am happy (and super excited) to announce that I have been asked to visit Arenas Del Mar to check out the gluten-free accommodations. I will be staying for a week in May and will be reporting on the gluten-free dining options that are available.
Stay tuned for my adventures in Costa Rica. The purpose of this visit and blog series is to create awareness within the gluten-free community of a vacation destination that truly cares about our diet restrictions and has put the time, money, and energy into ensuring that those who eat gluten free can have a worry-free vacation.
You can learn more about Arenas Del Mar by visiting their website and checking them out on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. I also urge you to look into the special two weeks that they are hosting. Check it out on the NFCA website. Watch the video below to see how beautiful the hotel is!
